We rely heavily on our quality walking bulls but a small amount of AI is used to incorporate new genetics from proven bulls. Our entry into the purebred Angus world happened in the fall of 1992 with the purchase of some 1991 bred females. These females were from some good people such as Dan Howell (Hi Lo), Alvin Swenson (Swenco), David McLean (Diamond Meadows) and Roger and Merle Thomason (Thomason Angus). We continued on from here building a herd of cows from other Western Canadian programs like Eastondale, Windy Willows, Beaver Angus, Happyvale, Standard Hill and most recently, Harvey Bowerman's B.B.A.R. herd. This was the largest acquisition and possibly the most exciting as it consisted of 15 cows and 1 pregnant recipient. These Bowerman matrons were sought out because most all of them carry blood of the phenomenal breeding legend; Nugget 370E. A bull who will go down in history as one of the greatest breeding bulls of our time. Added bonus was the valuable service these cows carried by OCC Legacy 839L. Another bull who undoubtably will pick up where 370E left off.
We marketed our seedstock out of the corral by private treaty until the fall of 2000 when we were invited into the Black Harvest Sales Group. Many changes have occurred since then including the move of developing and marketing our cattle closer to home at Mom and Gerry's facilities at Kisbey. We invite you to visit us at home, at the shows or at the sales to discuss cattle and would gladly assist you any way we can.
Sincerely,
Gerry and Betty Wyatt

THE GBT PHILOSOPHY
Our philosophy towards breeding cattle is really quite simple. We are a production oriented herd focusing on moderation and efficiency rather than fads and extremes. If they don't produce and turn a profit on an annual basis they are culled.
A productive mother cow is one who stands on sound feet and legs, carries an excellent udder, calves unassisted within a 60 day window and weans a quality calf.
We also prefer our females to work solely on forage ( replacement females included). We like to challenge our cattle some what, document their response to the adversity and tweak the genetics rather than the ration. If we adhere to these principles the sub fertile, poor doing, inefficient cattle will sort themselves.
This is the basis to our program |
